J.H. SECORD ENTERPRISES LTD was established in 1956 by it's founder Jack Secord (March 9 1922 – Feb 15 2009)
Jack Secord was a pioneer in the door industry. He started in the early 50’s owning a company called T & I Installations. This company did all the sub-contract installation for Richard Wilcox out of London Ontario. Jack evolved this into Secord Manufacturing in Hamilton; manufacturing their own Cranes and Multi-Blade doors. This was the beginning of the Seco-plex door and the Seco-drive operator. Secord Manufacturing also owned and operated Eastern Steel which produced their own line of rolling steel doors and the Ormsby fire door.
The Crane department became one of Canada’s largest exporters of custom one of a kind cranes. Secord Cranes and Seco-Plex doors are in such places as the Candu-reactor Nuclear plants, Hyundia plants in Korea, the Panama Cannel, Stelco, Dofasco and the Toronto Airport. Secord manufacturing specialized in meeting the needs of the steel industry. Developing specialized cranes and material handling equipment for both plants and ocean freighters. Secord’s was also known for its Airport hanger doors; which, to this day still are in operation around the world. In the early 80’s Secord recognized the need to produce skilled Overhead door mechanics and funded a trade course at a local college that provided all the required training to excel in the field. Secord Manufacturing was awarded the distinguished Canadian Achievement Award in 1979 by the Minister of Industry Hon. Larry Grossman.
Secord Manufacturing Continued to grow in the following years with a plant in Stony Creek of over 100,000 sq. feet with hundreds of employees.
Jack retired in the late 80’s selling the manufacturing division to the Harris Steel group and keeping Secord Enterprises a service division in the family.
J.H. Secord Enterprises still runs today in Toronto, Ontario, celebrating over 50 years in business.
Mark Secord, the second geneation door mechanic, now runs the comany with the same beliefs and comittment in honesty and intergity as his father did.
Mark Secord has been in the industry for over 25 years and has served as the President of the Ontario chapter of the Canadian Door Institute. He served two terms as the National President of the Canadain Door Institute. Mark was also one of the founders of the D.O.O.R.S association and served on the International Door Association ( IDA) Board of Directiors.
